If you ever wonder what is creatine then you are not alone because many people have heard of it and know what is it’s used, but that’s about it. I am going to tell you about creatine and how it works.

Creatine is created within the human body from combination of amino acids like Methione, Glycine and Arginie. Most people have 120 grams of creatine stored in their body as a phosphate and some foods contain amount of creatine like beef and salmon. To consume creatine you must take these foods.

Creatine is connected to Adenosine Triphosphate or ATP. The power house of a cell is form and created in ATP. Sometimes ATP is called the universal molecule. Creatine works by helping to generate energy in your cells and your body’s cells begin to stop producing energy. Creatine gives your cell a molecule that is needed to start making energy again because the more creatine you have in your system, the faster these regeneration processes occur. This is the reason why so many athletes and body builders have used this thing called creatine. When it is used in sports such as sprinting and lifting heavy weights, the athletes can generate energy faster.  It says that taking a creatine before a sports event can provide more and longer lasting energy. Creatine is used in sports that required endurance like swimming, running and marathons. Some research has shown a little benefit and some has shown no increase.

Creatine can usually be found in form of powder and liquid and has been found to increase strength and their muscle mass. These studies were concluded with younger adults. One concern with older adults is they lose their primary muscle mass as they get older. Creatine has many uses and promises that has still not been enough testing done to rule one negative side effect.

If you are interested in taking creatine you can talk to your doctor or nutritionist and ask about what is creatine and how safe it is. It is advised that all creatine users take regular breaks, usually two weeks, from creatine to avoid developing and increased tolerance to the substance.
